For example, Coldplay and Beyonce were accused of cultural appropriation recently when they made a music video in India, starring Beyonce as an Indian queen and showing colors, dancing kids and exotic Indian women. I, on the other hand, thought it was a beautifully made video and Beyonce looked hot!
Would you accuse me, an Indian, of treating German people as zoo animals just because I went to Hofbrauhaus in Munich to watch buxom Bavarian ladies in their traditional dresses carry 6 massive glasses of beer? No!
Tourist $$$ or not, I think it's necessary that people from different cultures interact as openly and as frequently as possible. How else do we learn about each other and appreciate the other? Sure, some of these interactions might be a bit condescending but to inform people politely when they're being condescending rather than not have them visit or interact with locals at all.
And don't kick yourself for not asking the Namibian butcher about the origin of their butchering trcnhiques. I once went to a similar market in Uganda and I was way too shocked by what I saw to ask any questions! :)Sagarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02829592108988219890noreply@blogger.com
